Walnut: The Only Town on Heartland Lines

Among the thousands of farms, homes and businesses served by Heartland Rural Electric Cooperative across twelve counties, there is exactly one incorporated city: Walnut, population about 200, tucked into the northwest corner of Crawford County.

Concern for Community Grants Awarded
|
|
|
The Heartland Board of Directors created the Concern for Community grant program in 2020 as a way to return unclaimed capital credit funds to the communities we serve. Through this program, we provide up to $5,000 for capital projects that will benefit the membership.
Due to overwhelming interest, we limited applications for the 2026 grants to fair boards and 4-H clubs. These six organizations were selected:

- Bourbon County Fair Association (Fort Scott)
- Cherokee County Fair Foundation (Columbus)
- Crawford County Fair Association (Girard)
- Kincaid Fair (Kincaid)
- Neosho County Fair Association (Erie)
- Southwind Extension Education Foundation (Iola)

Operation Round Up Applications Open Through October 16

Through Heartland’s Operation Round Up program, spare change on your bill adds up to big action in the communities we serve.
Applications for the next round of Operation Round Up grants, which provide funding for 501(c)(3) charitable

|
organizations providing direct services to southeast Kansans in need of assistance with food and other basic needs, are open through October 16.
