Introducing the Heartland Virtual County Fair Youth Photo Contest!
|
Summer is county fair season, and we want to celebrate it with you.
|
|
|
This July and August, Heartland is launching our first-ever Virtual County Fair Youth Photo Contest open to young photographers (ages 18 and under) across our service territory. Share the moments, places, and people that make this part of the world worth powering. Winners will receive cash prizes and ribbons, and their photos will be featured on our website, social media, and newsletters.
Competitors can submit one photo in each of five categories — Agriculture, Lake Life & Recreation, Wildlife & Nature, Landscapes, or People & Community — any time between now and August 21. Find more details, including instructions on how to send in your photos, on our website:

It looks as though we're in for a hot July, which might mean a number of potential Peak Days. (Remember, these are the days we might hit the highest usage on our system, which matters a lot for billing!)

Electrical Safety Around Water
|
|
|
Pool days, hot tubs, and backyard fun are some of the best parts of summer—but water and electricity don't mix. Keep these simple safety tips in mind to help prevent electrical accidents around your home.
|
- Test GFCI outlets monthly.
Ensure they're working properly around pools, spas, and other outdoor areas.
- Keep electronics and charging cords away from water.
Never use phones, tablets, or plugged-in devices with wet hands.
- Inspect electrical equipment regularly.
Replace damaged cords, outlet covers, or plugs as soon as you notice wear.
- Skip the extension cords.
Pool equipment should always be plugged into a proper outdoor outlet.
- Know the warning signs.
If you feel tingling or muscle cramps in the water, get out immediately. If you suspect electrical shock, turn off the power, call 911, and never enter the water to attempt a rescue.
